From: Martínez, C. R., Rodríguez–Vivas, R. I., Millán, J. F., Viana, K. A., Ruiz, E. G., & Martínez, J. Á. (2016). In vitro culture of Babesia bovis in a bovine serum-free culture medium supplemented with insulin, transferrin, and selenite. Experimental parasitology, 170, 214-219. The basal culture media used were Advanced DMEM (A-DMEM), Advanced MEM (A-MEM), Advanced RPMI-1640 (A-RPMI), Advanced DMEM/F12 (A-DMEM/F12), and the M-199 with Earle's salts (M-199), which are commercially available (GIBCO®). All culture media were buffered with 25 mM 2-[(2-hydroxy-1, 1-bis (hydroxymethyl) ethyl) amino] ethanosulfonic, N- [Tris (hydroxymethyl) methyl] -2-minoethanosulphonic (TES) (Sigma-Aldrich), 2 mM L-glutamine was added (GIBCO®). All culture media were supplemented with 40% (v/v) adult bovine serum (BS) from the donor. The pH was adjusted to 6.8, and each medium with all supplements was filter-sterilized using a membrane of 0.22-mm pore-size (Millipore). The supplements utilized to substitute serum were Ins-Trans-Sel (GIBCO®).
