In this study, animal-derived component free media were screened. Three xenofree defined media and stemcell dedicated media were tested, but only one, FreeStyle medium, significantly enhanced 2D growth of Renal cell cancer (RCC) cells and enabled to maintain their epithelial morphology. Moreover, FreeStyle medium supported suspension growth of human kidney cancer stem cells (HKCSC) and promoted round lymphoblast-like spherical morphology, as expected for these stem cells.
