Chicha, L., Feki, A., Boni, A., Irion, O., Hovatta, O., & Jaconi, M. (2011). Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Differentiated in Fully Defined Medium Generate Hematopoietic CD34+ and CD34− Progenitors with Distinct Characteristics. PLoS One, 6(2), e14733. In this study, the differentiation was of human embryonic stem cells (ESC) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) into morphologically and phenotypically mature leukocytes and erythrocytes was induced in the complete absence of serum and feeder cells. Short-term, animal protein-free culture conditions are sufficient to sustain the differentiation of human ESC and iPSC into primitive hematopoietic progenitors, which, in turn, produce more mature blood cell types. StemPro fully defined medium was supplemented with different components as specified in the Materials and Methods, under the heading; Hematopoietic differentiation. Stempro fully defined medium is a commercial product with a proprietary formulation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3045374/pdf/pone.0014733.pdf |
