Chen, S., Emery, S. E., & Pei, M. (2009). Coculture of Synovium-Derived Stem Cells and Nucleus Pulposus Cells in Serum-Free Defined Medium With Supplementation of Transforming Growth Factor-β1: A Potential Application of Tissue-Specific Stem Cells in Disc Regeneration. Spine, 34(12), 1272-1280. In this study, a coculture of synovium-derived stem cells (SDSCs) and nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) in a serum-free pellet system was treated with varying doses of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta). Cultures of either SDSCs or NPCs alone served as controls. The results showed tat, when incubated in a defined medium without TGF- 1 for 14 days, SDSC/NPC pellets maintained the highest DNA ratio (0.32 0.01) compared to NPC pellets (0.24 0.02) or SDSC pellets (0.14 0.02). The formulation of the culture medium is listed in the Materials and Methods, under the heading; Pellet culture. https://insights.ovid.com/pubmed?pmid=19455002 |
